The Stranger on Platform Seven

A stranger gives a traveler an old watch at a railway station and disappears before she can ask why.

Leah was waiting for the last train of the evening.

Platform Seven was almost empty.

An elderly man sat across from her holding an old silver watch.

Suddenly he stood and walked toward her.

"Take this," he said.

Leah stared at the watch.

"Why?"

"Because you will need to remember the time."

Before she could ask anything else, the train arrived.

Leah looked down at the watch.

When she looked up, the man was gone.

She boarded the train.

The watch had stopped at 11:17.

The next morning, Leah searched the internet for similar watches.

She found an old newspaper photograph.

The photograph showed the same man.

The article was dated thirty years earlier.

Leah contacted the newspaper archive.

The archivist explained that the man had disappeared after an accident on Platform Seven.

The accident had occurred at exactly 11:17.

Leah returned to the station.

The platform looked ordinary.

She placed the watch on the bench where she had first seen the stranger.

A station worker later found it.

The watch was still running.

Its hands now showed the correct time.
