The Light in the Window

Every night, a small light remains on in an empty house, and a curious neighbor eventually discovers the reason.

Every night at exactly nine o'clock, a light appeared in the upstairs window of the empty house.

Nobody lived there.

The house had been abandoned for years.

Yet the light never failed.

A teenager named Arjun became curious.

One evening, he walked across the street and looked through the fence.

The house was completely empty.

There were no signs of electricity.

He asked the oldest neighbor about it.

She smiled.

"The previous owner used to turn that light on every night."

"Why?"

"He said he wanted anyone walking home late to know that someone was awake."

Arjun thought about that.

The old man had died years earlier, but his small tradition remained.

That evening, Arjun returned home and turned on his own bedroom light.

The next night, another house did the same.

Then another.

Within a month, several windows on the street remained lit until late.

Nobody had organized it.

Nobody had announced it.

The lights simply appeared.

Years later, Arjun moved away.

Whenever he visited his childhood neighborhood, he noticed the lights.

They reminded him of something simple.

We often think kindness has to be large to matter.

Sometimes it is only a light in a window saying:

"Someone is here. You are not alone."
