The Coffee Shop Promise

Two people make a simple promise in a coffee shop: if life ever becomes too complicated, they will meet there again.

The first time they met, neither planned to stay.

Anika was waiting for a friend who was late.

Daniel was waiting for an interview across the street.

A sudden rainstorm pushed everyone inside the coffee shop.

They started talking.

Their conversation lasted nearly two hours.

Before leaving, Daniel said, "If life ever gets too complicated, let's meet here again."

Anika laughed.

"Deal."

Years passed.

They lost contact.

Careers changed. Cities changed. Relationships came and went.

Then one rainy evening, Anika walked into the same coffee shop.

Daniel was sitting by the window.

Neither had planned it.

They stared at each other for a moment.

Then Daniel smiled.

"Life got complicated," he said.

Anika laughed.

"Very."

They talked until the shop closed.

Nothing needed to be explained immediately.

Some friendships survive distance.

Some survive silence.

And some simply wait in the place where two people promised they would return.
