Noah wanted to be invisible.
He hated answering questions in class.
He avoided crowded places.
He ate lunch at the edge of the playground.
One afternoon, he noticed a new student sitting alone.
The boy looked nervous.
Noah understood that feeling immediately.
He sat beside him without saying anything.
After a few minutes, the boy smiled.
"I'm Daniel," he said.
"Noah."
That was the beginning.
Noah slowly began speaking more.
He discovered that Daniel loved drawing.
Daniel discovered that Noah was excellent at solving puzzles.
Soon they were spending every lunch break together.
Months later, Daniel moved to another city.
Before leaving, he gave Noah a drawing.
It showed two boys sitting under a tree.
Underneath it were the words:
"Thank you for noticing me."
Noah kept the drawing for years.
He never completely stopped being quiet.
But he stopped believing that being invisible was the same as being safe.
Sometimes being noticed by the right person can remind you that you matter.
